In Canada's Center, it is Canada's Heart Beat
With proximity to United States, Ontario, and Canada's West, Manitoba is in a strategic location for small family-driven businesses.
Manitoba is in the center of Canada, adjacent to Ontario. Its economy is largely focused on natural resources and agriculture, and hence it is a major exporter of these items to the U.S. and the world. It is an exciting place for entrepreneurs interested in those fields. Manitoba's population is only approximately 1.2 million, and is located mainly around its capita city of Winnipeg. This makes the province fairly cheap to live in compared to more populated ones. And also the its resident have the benefit of close-knit communities, a stable labour market, and beautiful expansive natural landscapes.

Why live in Manitoba?
The Canadian province of Manitoba is a land of natural beauty, with clean, safe and friendly cities and towns that offer a relaxed and enriching lifestyle for you and your family.

Manitoba has one of Canada's strongest and most diversified economies, with a low of cost of living and plenty of opportunities for quality careers, for education or to start a business.

Manitoba is affordable. After paying basic annual costs (taxes, housing, child care, car insurance, utilities), a family of five earning $75,000 is left with $ 17,000 per year more in Manitoba than the same family in the province of Ontario (capital city, Toronto).

Manitoba is known for the high quality of our free public health care and school systems.

Manitoba's capital city of Winnipeg, with a population of about 750,000, is a world-class city with lots of employment, entertainment and education options. Here, house prices are among the lowest in Canada. Winnipeg is a top choice for immigrants to Canada (after Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver). Winnipeg is more affordable and offers a better work-life balance than other Canadian cities.

What is the minimum investment in Manitoba?
The minimum investment is $250,000 for businesses located in the Manitoba Capital Region.

Minimum investment is $150,000 if a business is located outside of the Manitoba Capital Region.

Your investment must be made in an eligible business as defined by the program. Not all business types are eligible, for example laundry cleaners, and convenience stores are not.
How do you qualify for the entrepreneurship programs?
They are many qualifications. In brief, they are:
  • For Manitoba, you must have a net worth of at least $500,000 or more
    • the number is of course based on the Canadian province you choose
  • You must have at least 2 or more years of business experience in your home country,
  • Also, most provinces require you to take an English language test, and get a minimum of a 5 of 10
  • And after you are accepted, you must actually actually establish the business in Canada, in order to receive the nomination that you need to apply for residency
Most provinces generally ask for the same requirements. But there are two main difference
  1. The first is that each province requires you to have a different net worth, or an amount of money that you own.
  2. And the second is that each province requires you to invest a different amount, that is anywhere between $100,000 thousand to $400,000 CAD
What is the application process in brief?
Each province has its own entrepreneurship program. And sometimes there are different names for it, for instance, in PEI the program is called the Business Impact stream,

Basically the programs are for entrepreneurs that seek to open up a business in the province. The applicant submits an application called an Expression of Interest. If it is accepted, they then must sign an undertaking and other documents that commit them to establish that business in the province. He or she will then receive a work permit to come to Canada. After he/she succeed in opening the business, and operating it for 1-2 years, he or she will receive a nomination. He/she can use that to apply for Permanent Residency.

The entire process takes about 2.5-3 years until one receives permanent residency.
